Artrocker closes print magazine, continue as tablet-only
UK music publication, Artrocker have announced that their print magazine will cease as of next month.
Instead, the independent monthly will continue as tablet-only - available via Google Play, Amazon App Store and Apple Newsstand.
Artrocker’s editor-in-chief, Tom Fawcett said of the decision:
“From a purely business point of view, we like the amount of control and endless options tablet publishing gives us over how many editions a year we could publish, and when you want to publish them.
It also opened up the world to the Artrocker brand. Whilst a small percentage of the print issues went to the USA, Japan, Europe, South Africa and beyond, the tablet edition of the issue can now be viewed by anyone with an iPad, Galaxy, Nexus, Kindle Fire or other Google Play enabled tablet at the touch (or swipe) of a button. Artrocker has now become a truly international brand with all the latest on even more new music first.
We’ve invested heavily in the licenses and software needed to make the most of the new technology and we’re no longer constrained by the same costs and time restraints of producing a physical magazine to all four corners of the globe at the behest of a printer’s schedule. There’s also the additional content benefit that digital offers – there’s no longer a limit to how many features or reviews we wish to publish each month… other than our own time in being able to write about them all and still give you a new issue to read every month!”
The news follows on from The Word’s announcement that they will close back in June 2012.
Artrocker will issue its first tablet-only issue on 28 February.
