Ariel Pink to live and record on a train for Doug Aitken's 'Station to Station' tour
American multimedia artist, Doug Aitken has launched what he’s calling a ‘Station to Station’ tour, where he and a list of other musicians, artists and other creative types travel 10 stops from New York to San Francisco, curating a different “happening” on each stop.
Among the musical acts set to appear at dates on the stint are Beck, Cat Power, Ariel Pink, Giorgio Moroder, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Dan Deacon, Eleanor Friedberger, Nite Jewel, No Age, Savages, Twin Shadow, Connan Mockasin and more.
With details trickling through on each artist’s contribution, it’s today been revealed (via Pitchfork) that Ariel Pink will live and record on the train as part of his act. A press release says that he attempts to make ”a modern song-cycle that speaks to our times.”
Meanwhile, Beck will contribute to the Barstow, California leg, offering up a “unique performance… created and composed exclusively for this event”, while Moroder will use field recordings from the train’s stop in Winslow, Arizona.
Tickets for the legs are on sale now, with more info available here.
