Aretha Franklin left three handwritten wills behind
Until yesterday there was no indication that Aretha Franklin had a will, but now three handwritten ones have been discovered in her home.
BBC reports that the three wills are handwritten. The most recent one - from 2014 - was found under cushions on her sofa, while the other two, from 2010, were locked away in a cabinet.
The 2014 will was, according to her lawyer David Bennett, written in a spiral notebook, and left all of Franklin's assets to her family.
All of the wills have been shared with Franklin's four sons. The Franklin estate revealed two of the sons have objected the wills.
Bennett filed the wills on Monday (20 May), and told the judge that he's "not sure if they are legal under Michigan law." A hearing is scheduled for 12 June to determine the validity of the documents.
Franklin died in August 2018 while battling pancreatic cancer. At the time Franklin's family said she had no will.
