Apparently no illegal statements were found in Russia's Eurovision 2021 entry song "Russian Woman"
Russian news agency RIA Novosti has revealed that no illegal statements were found in Manizha's "Russian Woman" song that was chosen to represent Russia at the 2021 Eurovision.
Yesterday (18 March) The Guardian reported that Russian investigators were looking into Manizha's Eurovision 2021 entry "Russian Woman" after she was accused of inciting hatred towards men by The Russian Union of Orthodox Women in an open letter. They called for a ban on Manizha’s music video and do not want her to participate in this year's Eurovision.
The song urges Russian women to lean into their independence, while also bringing up sexism issues of beauty and age, as well as mentioning the societal pressure of having children.
As The Guardian notes, Manizha was born in Tajikistan but now lives in Russia, and is also an activist for women’s and refugees’ rights.
According to Russian news agency RIA Novosti, a source from the police authorities confirmed that no illegal statements were found in the song.
