Aphex Twin's surprise NFT artwork sells at auction for $128,000
Aphex Twin surprised fans over the weekend by putting artwork in the form of an NFT (non-fungible token) up for auction, which ended up fetching around $128,000.
Aphex Twin has become the latest artist to sell digital artwork as an NFT. Over the weekend, Aphex Twin announced an auction for afx\/weirdcore\blockscanner, a piece created alongside anonymous artist Weirdcore.
According to Crack Magazine, the digital artwork also included music from Aphex Twin and "additional technical input" from Freeka Tet, and was sold via an auction on cryptocurrency marketplace Foundation.
The auction announcement was made by Aphex Twin on Twitter, who also noted that some of the money made from the artwork will go towards "planting trees and either donating to permaculture projects or setting them up ourselves, depending on how much we get."
