Anoushka Shankar, Nubya Garcia and more confirmed for WOW Sounds 2021
The WOW Foundation has revealed its lineup for WOW Sounds, an online series of performances curated for WOW Festival UK 2021, including Anoushka Shankar, Nubya Garcia and more.
WOW Sounds is a series of online music performances that will stream as part of the WOW - Women of the World Festival's programme of In Conversations.
The online series aims to highlight international women, girls and non-binary artists that use their music as a form of activism, all while celebrating International Women's Day that takes place on 8 March.
WOW Sounds is announced as a response to the WOW Live at the Royal Albert Hall event that was due to take place on 8 March, but was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The artists involved in WOW Sounds will record their performances at the iconic London venue, using its auditorium, hallways, secret stairwells and more. There's also some performances that will be filmed from New Delhi's Akshara Theatre, and some from artists' living rooms.
Some of the UK-based artists taking part in WOW Sounds include six-time Grammy nominee Anoushka Shankar, Nubya Garcia, cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Anaiis and Miss Baby Sol.
International acts for WOW Sounds 2021 include Kimmortal, Voice of Baceprot, Ditty, Aliah Sheffield, Fatoumata Diawara, Asmaa Hamzoui and her band Bnat Timbouktou.
Miss Baby Sol, Anaiis, Anoushka Sankar, Nubya Garcia and Ayanna Witter-Johnson’s performances will be recorded at London’s Royal Albert Hall and will feature short interviews about their work with radio presenter/journalist Gemma Cairney.
