Animal Collective's Panda Bear talks Daft Punk new album collaboration
Daft Punk have been rolling out quite the PR machine for their upcoming Random Access Memories album, among it weekly interviews with various collaborators on the record, including Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams and now Panda Bear of Animal Collective.
In it, he discusses the early days of his band (“The names and the masks in the beginning were a way to let the music happen in a natural way”), his first experience with Daft Punk via the ‘Around the World’ music video, as well how the duo brought him and his brother together.
Panda Bear also reveals that he’s been turned down multiple times regarding remixes by the French electronic pair, both inside and outside of Animal Collective. Asked this time round if they’d be interested in working together on a project, he received a “yes,” and an invitation to Paris. He was given a three-day window to create from scratch, and “at the last moment we came up with something that we all liked”.
“It’s a cool way to say thanks for the inspiration”. You can watch the eight-minute interview below.
