Angel Olsen previews upcoming box set with orchestral track "Alive and Dying (Waving, Smiling)"
Angel Olsen has unveiled a second bonus track "Alive and Dying (Waving, Smiling)" - an orchestral rework of "Waving, Smiling" - from her upcoming box set Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories.
After announcing her Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories box set with "It’s Every Season (Whole New Mess)" last month, Olsen has returned with a second track from her Far Memory bonus LP "Alive and Dying (Waving, Smiling)", which is an orchestral version of her Whole New Mess track "Waving, Smiling", with string arrangements by Jherek Bischoff.
Olsen says of the song, "This song is all about chapters closing, and learning to let go of things I can’t understand. It’s very me - I will always nosedive into love, and suffering can definitely come with that. When I hear this version the strings really bring the song to its necessary bittersweet boiling point."
Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories, which will include alternate takes, b-sides, remixes and reimaginings of her All Mirror and Whole New Mess albums, as well as a 40-page booklet with unseen photos, handwritten lyrics and more.
Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories will also feature a cover of Roxy Music's "More Than This". Olsen says of the box set, "It feels like part of my writing has come back from the past, and another part of it was waiting to exist."
There will be just 3,000 physical copies of the box set available worldwide.
