Authorised Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black to be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson
Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson is set to direct an authorised Amy Winehouse biopic that's reportedly titled Back To Black.
Deadline reports that the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic, initially teased by the late singer's father Mitch Winehouse in 2020, is moving forward with production having got Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, Nowhere Boy, A Million Little Pieces) on board to direct.
Mitch Winehouse said of the film in 2020, "We've got a lovely movie, a lovely Broadway show coming, and that's how we'll get our own back, by portraying Amy the way she was."
"The movie is gonna be in a year or two," he added. "We've gone beyond talks, we're at script stage. The film is going to be a biopic."
The Amy Winehouse biopic is reportedly titled Back To Black, and Control and Nowhere Boy writer Matt Greenhalgh has written the script. Deadline reveals that Studiocanal is producing the biopic with Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Tracey Seaward.
Back To Black will be the first Amy Winehouse film to be backed by her family, following multiple unauthorised releases including 2015's Amy and 2018's Amy Winehouse: Back to Black.
