Amazon's vinyl sales up by 100% on previous year
Online retailer Amazon have reported that sales of vinyl are up 100% on the previous year, mostly thanks to the release of Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories LP, they say.
According to The 405, the exact numbers aren’t available yet but so far in 2013, vinyl sales have more than exceeded last years and Random Access Memories stands at the top of best-selling vinyl albums among other greats such as David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars, The Beatles’ Love Me Do (50th Anniversary Limited Edition 7” Single), Radiohead’s In Rainbows and OK Computer and Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black.
Garambois, Vice-President of European Consumer Business at Amazon said: ”It’s great to see so many people rediscovering a format that holds such an important place in music history. We expect to see sales of vinyl continue to flourish with Amazon AutoRip, helping introduce new generations to this timeless format whilst giving our customers the convenience and portability of digital music.”
