Alice Boman announces second album with new single "Night And Day"
Sweden's Alice Boman has returned with news of her second album The Space Between, and has unveiled the lead single "Night And Day".
"Night And Day" is the first outing from Boman's upcoming second album, and follows last month's official release of her cover of The War On Drugs' "Red Eyes".
Boman says of the new single, which is accompanied by a Jeanne Lula-Chauveau-directed video, "To me — this is one of the most direct songs on the album. It is special to me. I am singing about the beginning of a relationship. About the moment when you are able to let go of the resistance (there due to experiences in the past) and give in to love completely. And to then be present and totally immersed in this other person and in the desire to be together."
The Space Between will follow Boman's 2020 debut album Dream On, and will feature a collaboration with Perfume Genius. Boman also reunited with Dream On producer Patrik Berger (Robyn, Lana Del Rey) for the new record.
Boman reveals that the pandemic was a hurdle for her creation process, "When COVID came, I had to cancel everything, and while I know some people used that time to go straight into writing, I just couldn’t find any inspiration."
After a successful jamming session with Berger and drummer Nils Törnqvist in autumn last year, they decided to head to Berger's Stockholm studio to work on the record. Boman says, "It was such a playful process. Me and Patrik played together on separate synths on a lot of the songs — just improvising and trying out stuff. I think you can really feel that in the production."
Speaking about the Perfume Genius collaboration, Boman adds, "I have been a fan of his for a long time. I love his voice - it's so special. Initially I wanted us to harmonise with each other but I love how the song turned out, with us each having our separate verses, and singing together at the end."
