Alcopop! Records to release Nigel Farage parody song
Alcopop! Records, the guys who almost bought the UKIP website after it wasn't renewed by accident, have lined up a new parody single.
Inspired by Stiff Records' 1980 release The Wit & Wisdom of Ronald Reagan, famous completely blank on both sides, Alcopop! will release a 7" called The Wit & Wisdom of Nigel Farage... and wouldn't you know, it's blank. However, there is a special remix on the B-side courtesy of Rou Reynolds/Enter Shikari.
It's out 4 May.
The product listing on the label's website states:
Righty ho. So this has been a long time in the planning, but we've been excited to drop this 7" in time for the General Election for quite some time. After we had that ol' fun trying to buy UKIP's website back in January, we thought the next step would be to release something suitable...
So, based on the magnificent Stiff Records parody of 1980, vs. Ronald Reagan, Alcopop! Records are releasing a parody 7" single attempting to fit ALL of the wit and wisdom of Nigel Farage onto just two sides of vinyl. There's tees available too!
It is, of course, utterly blank...
The A-side is fully groove cut and, short of a few natural crackles or pops, will play only silence, but the exceptional Rou of Shikari Sound System (and Enter Shikari) has put together a sterling remix for the B-Side, containing more musings the Alcopop! crew imagine Mr. Farage has in his head... Dripping taps, ambient noise, and seagulls. This is not a vinyl affiliated with any other political parties. This is more of a message to showcase what the label think of the UKIP leader.
We've always thought that Stiff Records Reagan 7" was about the best thing that's ever happened, and it felt like it was the right time to take a leaf out of their book. We're not a massively political label, and we're not trying to tell people who to vote for. We're just genuinely terrified at what could happen to this country if people listen to the slick, media savvy cult of Farage rather than actually looking at his policies... So anything we can do in our small way to make people question his political motives is something we're delighted to be involved in.
You can purchase the record here. A "hearty proportion" will go to The Migrants Rights Network charity.
