Actress shares new single "X22RME", announces fifth record AZD
UK producer Actress is releasing a new album next month called AZD (it's pronounced 'azid') - and you can hear first single "X22RME" now.
The album follows the lauded Ghettoville and arrives despite Darren Cunningham (aka Actress) hinting at a retirement after his 2014 record.
Dan Emmerson directs the video for "X22RME" (pronounced 'Extreme'). Speaking about the visuals, he says: "This quote from Darren was an inspiration, it's also about the language of communication and interpretation: ‘translucent ambience coming from an incognito slightly on the edge but eternally fixed paradigm'."
"I did 50 versions of the tune," Cunningham says of the single. "Different parts were on tape, CD, different old computers and USB sticks, so it was quite intimidating to revisit and complete. The track was in the end built out of three hours of different passages."
Actress will debut his new live show (as AZD) at the Village Underground in London on 24 March as part of Convergence. Cunningham says it "will be a test frame for linking circuits using various forms of language - Midi globalised language, lyrical language, Tikal Graffiti code. and various other synthesiser languages - to create one intelligent musical instrument called AZD; if successful it will produce the first translucent, non-soluble communication sound pill synergised through impressionistic interpretations of technological equipment. This is the music vitamin of the Metropolis."
