A.A. Williams unveils delicate cover of Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?"
A.A. Williams has shared her piano ballad cover of Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" as the latest preview of her Songs From Isolation album.
Williams' version of Pixies' 1988 original is stripped back, with only a piano to accompany Williams' soft vocals.
She says of the cover, "I was so glad when a fan suggested "Where Is My Mind?" for Songs From Isolation - it was a pleasure to work on a song that is so well-known and well-loved. To create an arrangement that was true to the original and also presented it in a new light was challenging. To ensure that the much-beloved melodies were treated with due care I kept things pretty sparse, with simple, rhythmic piano underpinning the legendary topline."
Williams' cover of Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" follows last month's cover of The Smashing Pumpkins' "Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans", which will feature on Songs From Isolation alongside her version of The Cure's "Lovesong" and her cover of Deftones' "Be Quiet And Drive".
Songs From Isolation was a project Williams began at the start of the first UK lockdown in March 2020, and saw her take cover requests from fans, turning them into recorded versions with videos filmed from her North London home.
The forthcoming album will also feature covers of Nick Cave, Gordon Lightfoot, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails and more.
