21 of the UK’s best music blogs, websites and magazines join together for new app
LOST is a new app we got involved with because it fills a gap that's been irking us for some time.
Most streaming services have a singular approach to new music that ignores an entire tier of artists bubbling underneath. Many of the acts we cover on this site aren't on Spotify and the ones who are don't necessarily figure in the major playlists that are now part of mico-industry in their own right.
The LOST app totally nails the concept of authentic new music discovery combined with a neat streaming interface. It's an app for people who really, truly want to be close to new music in its most literal and celebratory meaning. We don't make any money out of it so saying that is relatively painless.
We said we'd be involved because we hope and think it'll help the artists we love and support find new ears and the sites involved in the LOST app are some of our favourites - from VICE staples Noisey & Thump UK to our friends at Gold Flake Paint, Clash, Rockfeedback, The 405 and FACT.
"The most difficult aspect of running this, and probably any, music blog is getting people to actually listen to the music that we champion," explains Gold Flake Paint's Tom Johnson. "Anything that makes it easier for people to consume these songs that we really believe in, is a huge bonus - especially for smaller blogs, such as this one, that has an emphasis on covering newer and less-known artists.
"LOST seems like something of a godsend in this respect; an easy-to-use playlist function that gives our site and our voice equal-footing and a sturdy platform among the best music sites in the world."
For users with playlists across SoundCloud, YouTube, Apple and Spotify, they can import them into their LOST collection. With all the music in one place, fans can create playlists from anywhere, without anything getting in the way. So says the press release. Ultimately we just wanted a way to stream stuff from the sites we love in a fast and quick way that doesn't completely tear the heart out from the way we present stuff on the site.
