Lambrini Girls defend their trans-inclusive messages against Father Ted creator
Lambrini Girls have defended themselves against comments made by Graham Linehan who has criticised them for speaking out for trans rights.
Lambrini Girls performed at Iggy Pop‘s Dog Day Afternoon at London’s Crystal Palace Park over the weekend. On stage, they projected trans-inclusive messages onto a screen behind them, and played songs such as, "Help Me I'm Gay", "White Van", and "Terf Wars", from their latest EP, You're Welcome.
In response to their label sharing a photo of them on stage, the Father Ted creator replied with an image which reads: “Start thinking of an excuse why you supported sterilising children". Never ones to sit quietly, Lambrini Girls hit back at the "disappointing" comment.
They also went on to throw his own card back at him, adding: "If we’re playing the ‘what about the children’ card, here’s a statistic: Su*c*de is the highest among transgender youth amongst any other youth group- because of hate from people like you and the fact they can’t access vital gender affirming surgery. Children are dying."
A disappointing example of a powerful industry head terrified of authentic self expression. He would rather attack individuals trying to affirm it then address their own prejudice. Oh boo boo Graham Linehan you’ve got to shit on others in order to stay relevant. Suck my balls. https://t.co/gKAQd621jB

Linehan has become known in recent years for perpetrating anti-trans sentiments, claiming his views have cost him his career and image. In 2018, he was issued with a verbal harassment warning by police after he was involved in an online row with a transgender activist.
In a conversation with BEST FIT earlier this year, Lambrini Girls discussed the difficulty of writing punk music, which often gets pigeonholed as riot grrrl, despite the movement inherently being quite problematic: "riot grrrl should be about inciting social change, but it is also populated by TERFs. If you are attracting those people to your music, be vocal about trans rights, make it known that we are inclusive and we are angry about these things. If there are transphobic people who are listening to our music under the guise of ‘feminism’, then they can get fucked.”
What is it about the support authentic self expression from minority groups scares you? How does that affect your life in any way? You people aren’t Martyrs- you are literally the problem. Queers aren’t the extremists here- you are.

The fact that so many TERFS are coming for us right now- if we weren’t pissing them off, then we wouldn’t be doing our job right would we eh
