Katy Perry on Dr. Luke collaboration: "I understand that it started a lot of conversations"
On the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Katy Perry has revealed why she decided to work with Dr. Luke.
When Katy Perry released her comeback single, "Woman's World", she was faced with a lot of controversy. Some thought the song was mediocre, and most people were judging her for working with Dr. Luke who had been in a court battle with Kesha for almost a decade.
Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke – her producer and label owner – in 2014, accusing him of an extended period of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse and attempting to extricate herself from her contract. Luke countersued that same year, denying all her allegations and claiming that the she had defamed him.

"I understand that it started a lot of conversations. He was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with, but the reality is that it comes from me. The truth is that I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis. He was one of the people to help facilitate all of that – one of the writers, one of the producers – and I am speaking from my own experiences," Katy Perry said of working with Dr. Luke.
"When I speak about 'Woman's World', I'm speaking about feelings of empowerment as mother; as a woman giving birth; creating life, creating another set of organs – a brain, a heart. I created a whole ass heart," she continued. "I'm still doing it, and I'm still matriarch and feeling really grounded in that, and that's where I'm speaking from. I created all of this with several different collaborators [including] people that I've collaborate with from the past, and from the Teenage Dream era."
