Katy J Pearson shares new version of "Willow's Song" featuring Broadside Hacks
Katy J Pearson shares a new version of the track taken from forthcoming Katy J Pearson & Friends Present Songs From The Wicker Man – an EP of The Wicker Man soundtrack covers for StudioCanal's 50th anniversary celebrations of the film.
Katy J Pearson releases a re-recorded version of "Willow’s Song" featuring London folk collective Broadside Hacks. Originally featured on her acclaimed album, Sound Of The Morning, released on Heavenly Recordings last July, this updated cover of Paul Giovanni’s song from the soundtrack to the 1973 cult film The Wicker Man produced by Balazs Altsach features on a forthcoming EP which includes new versions of some of the film’s most memorable music.
Talking about "Willow's Song", Pearson said: "Strangely, I heard The Wicker Man soundtrack way before I watched the movie. I remember my dad playing me Willow’s Song and I found it hypnotic and it started being a song I listened to a lot. The version I did for the record was a kind of psychedelic/ krautrock version so having the opportunity to work with my friends Broadside Hacks on a traditional cover which they put together so beautifully has been really brilliant. I’m such a fan so it’s an honour to be involved in the 50th anniversary of The Wicker Man."
A video of Katy J Pearson performing "Willow’s Song" in Paris this May was premiered yesterday.
Having been asked to re-imagine the soundtrack for StudioCanal’s box set re-issue of the cult Brit-horror film to mark its 50th anniversary, the nine-track EP from Katy J Pearson and friends (Broadside Hacks, Drug Store Romeos, Sarah Meth, Orbury Common, Evie Hilyer-Zietler, Bert Ussher, H.Hawkline plus special guests as well as remixes by Richard Norris and Stone Club) celebrates the film’s iconic soundtrack.
Katy J Pearson & Friends Present Songs From The Wicker Man will be released via CD on 25 September as part of the 4-disc The Wicker Man 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition, and digitally later in the year on Heavenly.
