Kate Bush shares statement on Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction: "I’m only five foot three, but today I feel a little taller"
On Friday evening (3 November), Kate Bush was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, via a speech by Big Boi and a cover of “Running Up That Hill” by St. Vincent.
Kate Bush's last public appearance was at a residency in London in 2014, so there was a high chance that she wasn't going to attend the induction ceremony. Instead, she took a moment to share a statement on her website, expressing that it's a "real honour" to know that people think she deserves the acclaim of being in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
"I am completely blown away by this huge honour – an award that sits in the big beating heart of the American music industry. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. I never imagined I would be given this wonderful accolade," she wrote, adding that she was grateful for the resurgence that "Running Up That Hill" had last year due to its appearance in Stranger Things.
"On the surface, our music is obviously very different. But in important ways, they're exactly the same. What I love about Kate's music is that you never know what sound you're going to hear next." - @BigBoi inducting @KateBushMusic.

Bush was being inducted alongside Missy Elliott – who made history as the first female rapper to be a part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – as well as Tom Morello, Sheryl Crow, Shaka Khan, George Michael, Willie Nelson, and more.
She later took a moment to praise Elton John and celebrate his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin who was also being inducted. "When I was growing up my hero was Elton John. I poured over his music, longed to be able to play piano like him and longed to write songs that could move people in the way his work moved me," she wrote.
"That little girl in South East London could never have dreamed she’d be sharing the event tonight with Bernie Taupin, Elton’s writing partner, an incredible lyricist who inspired me to keep writing songs – to keep trying... Music is at the core of who I am and, like all musicians, being on the journey of trying to create something musically interesting is rife with feelings of doubt and insecurity. I’m only five foot three, but today I feel a little taller."
