Joy Crookes raises almost 100k for Gaza following charity concert
On 6 December, Joy Crookes performed at Hackney Church for a fundraiser concert in partnership with Choose Love, announcing that proceeds will be going towards the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Joy Crookes announced the show two weeks ago, which was set to feature special guests, conversations, and a headline performance from herself. Yesterday she shared a post on her Instagram, which revealed that the event has raised around £95,000, which will be donated to support charities that are on the frontline helping aid those suffering the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Calling the two-day event the most poignant and moving shows of her life, Crookes said: "I was nervous heading into this week, for a myriad of reasons but I KNEW it was something that would ultimately benefit some of the most in need people in the world right now. I KNEW I had to use my voice to advocate for those not being heard, and i KNEW i wanted to create a space filled with love, conversation, compassion and solidarity."
She goes on to say that they're still in the process of reconciliation for the event, but she is able to share roughly how much funds were raised. "I can with resolute confidence, as per my agreement with Choose Love, say that 100% of the funds raised from the two shows will be distributed to charities operating in Gaza," she continued. "This is restricted, needs based funding, the money will go where it’s needed and nowhere else. In due course we’ll deliver a report showing where every pound of the money raised has been spent".
