Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Chappell Roan, Lucy Dacus, and Brandi Carlile perform "I’m Still Standing"
Over the weekend (19-20 October), Joni Mitchell and a host of artists and collaborators took over Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl for her annual Joni Jam.
On the first of two evenings, Joni Mitchell was joined by the likes of Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Meryl Streep, Jon Batiste, Jacob Collier, Lisa Coleman, Annie Lennox, Lucius, Marcus Mumford, Allison Russell, and many more, who joined her on songs such as "California", "Ladies of the Canyon", "Coyote", "Big Yellow Taxi", "A Case of You", and Elton John's "I'm Still Standing".
Brandi Carlile has shared backstage footage of the second evening of The Joni Jam, which shows herself, Mitchell, and John, performing "I'm Still Standing" alongside Chappell Roan and Lucy Dacus.
Speaking further about The Joni Jam, Carlile wrote: "The last 6 years of sitting next to that once a millennium woman and watching her emerge… or rather “return to herself” is the closest thing I’ve ever seen to an actual living miracle. Last night at the Hollywood Bowl the circle truly connected. Joni has done it. She’s re-learned to play her guitar and her piano. She can paint and dance and, as we all now know - she can SING. What a gift it has been for me to be allowed to sing with her in these re-emergent, precious and vulnerable years. In everything I do from now on, I will try to remain worthy of the trust I earned from Joni."
The Joni Jam took place from 19-20 October.
