SXSW has revealed the winners for this year’s Grulke Prize, with jasmine.4.t named as winner for Developing Non-U.S. Act.

The first UK signee on Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records, jasmine.4.t’s debut You Are The Morning is dedicated to queer friendship and was produced by boygenius. The Manchester singer and songwrier was also the focus of an extended profile on Best Fit and played at our official SXSW party last night after a series of shows in Austin that included an on-stage collaboration with Julien Baker.

The Developing Act Prize is for artists who are breaking new ground with their creativity and show the most promise in achieving their career goals. Other winners in this year’s awards include Samara Cyn (winner for Developing U.S. Act) and John Fogerty (winner for Career Act); previous winners include Blondshell, Yard Act, Horsegirl and Haim.

The award, now in its eleventh year, was developed in honour of SXSW friend and colleague Creative Director Brent Grulke, who passed away in August 2012. Grulke had a lengthy career in many areas of the music industry, working as music editor at the Austin Chronicle, sound engineer and tour manager for many Austin bands, and production and sound engineer for clubs in San Francisco. He later moved to Los Angeles to become the manager at Spindletop Records, which eventually led him back to Austin where he became the longtime Creative Director of SXSW.
