Jamie Reid, artist of Sex Pistols record covers, has died aged 76
Jamie Reid, the artist and graphic designer whose collage work for the Sex Pistols helped to define the punk aesthetic, has died aged 76.
As reported by The Guardian, his gallerist John Marchant confirmed his death alongside Reid’s family. In a statement he was described as an “artist, iconoclast, anarchist, punk, hippie, rebel and romantic. Jamie leaves behind a beloved daughter Rowan, a granddaughter Rose, and an enormous legacy.”
Reid enrolled at Wimbledon Art School aged 16, and later moved on to Croydon Art School where he met Malcolm McLaren – future manager of Sex Pistols. Reid famously created the logo for the band, as well as the artwork for the Never Mind The Bollocks album, as well as singles such as "Pretty Vacant" and "God Save The Queen", and their movie, The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle.
RIP Jamie Reid, best known as the designer for the classic Sex Pistols era 1976-79. His ability to render complex ideas in eye catching visuals was their perfect accompaniment. He and I did a book together in 1987: it’s a good one pic.twitter.com/lyRSYy9L8N

His art is held in major institutions such as Tate Britain, New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Houston’s Museum of Fine Art, and as well as the famous collages, he also produced hundreds of abstract paintings.
He also collaborated with Shepard Fairey – the street artist best known for the Obama “Hope” image – and supported the Occupy and Pussy Riot movements. In 2017, he created a riff on his swastika-eyed "God Save the Queen" artwork featuring Donald Trump, entitled God Save Us All.
Jamie Reid also created a book, The Incomplete Works of Jamie Reid: Up They Rise.
