Jaakko Eino Kalevi releases his new single, “Palace In My Head”
Following the announcement of his new album Chaos Magic, Jaakko Eino Kalevi releases new track “Palace In My Head”, featuring vocals from French actress and singer Alma Jodorowsky.
A chance introduction by a mutual friend in Jaakko’s new home of Athens led to the collaboration with Jodorowsky. Writing the lyrics together for the exotic electro-pop track “was all very spontaneous and easy,” says Kalevi. “I had an early demo of this for many years on my computer and didn’t know how to finish it. I re-recorded it in the studio and luckily got Alma to help me finish the chorus part. The chorus and verse are from different worlds, in my opinion. The verse is very dramatic and dark and then the chorus is bright and comforting.”
Alongside the track, he also releases an accompanying video, directed by Jodorowsky.
Its celestial, vintage aesthetic was captured through an old Bolex camera – shot by cinematographer Sean Price Williams (Good Time, The Sweet East) – adding to the illusion that the couple are in a dream-like, otherworldly state.
"Knowing that we wanted to shoot the video in Athens, where Jaakko and I met, I had this idea of our ghosts missing on each other and leading the viewers to these beautiful Greek landscapes,” she comments. “This parallel world, just like a dream, is like an incarnation of the creative mind of us two musicians. It resonates with the lyrics of the song that of course inspired me, evoking mind palaces and the border between fiction and reality.”
Following a sold-out roaring show at London’s Servant Jazz Quarters, Jaakko Eino Kalevi is hitting the road again in November for a European and UK tour, including a date at London's Two Palms.
"Palace In My Head" is out now. Chaos Magic is set for release on 17 November via Weird World.
