Israeli soldier and budding Eurovision entry killed in Gaza just weeks after his audition
Israeli soldier, Shaul Greenglick, has been killed in Gaza amidst the Israel-Hamas war. The new comes just a few weeks after he auditioned to be considered for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
The Times Of Israel has revealed that Greenglick is one of three soldiers who have recently been killed by Hamas fighters in Gaza.
As reported by Billboard Greenglick auditioned for The Next Star, which is an Israeli singing competition series which helps to determine the country’s Eurovision contestant, on 3 December, whilst furloughed. He was given a place in the next round of the show, but he dropped out in order to fulfil his military duties.
This comes just weeks after it was announced that Yotam Haim, the drummer for Israeli heavy metal band Persephore, was shot dead in error by IDF forces in Shejaiya alongside Alon Shamriz and Samer El-Talalka when trying to escape after being kidnapped in October.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 finale will take place in the Malmö Arena on Saturday 11 May following the semi-finals on Tuesday 7 and Thursday 9 May.
