IDLES present new single "Dancer" featuring James Murphy and Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem
The new single coincides with the announcement of IDLES' fifth studio album, TANGK.
Out today is the first single and accompanying video "Dancer", in which you’ll can hear LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Nancy Whang on backing vocals. "Dancer" captures the rapture of a new relationship, but Joe Talbot is also singing about the special dynamic between IDLES and their fans, or IDLES and the world at large.
This is the band’s vow to keep lifting and fighting for themselves and their listeners, to keep offering the grim persistence of joy and hope and love and wonder as long as that’s what anyone needs to survive. It is a love song in the same way that TANGK is a love album: open to anyone who requires something to shout out loud in order to fend off any encroaching sense of the void, now or forever.
“"Dancer" is the violence that comes from the pounding heart of the dancefloor and rushes through your body and gives you life from music, from love and from you," Talbot says.
TANGK was produced by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, The Smile, Beck), Kenny Beats (Denzel Curry, Vince
Staples, Benee) and IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen. The trio made for an excellent tandem of foils to IDLES, pushing them into new terrain and then pulling the reins as needed. As a result, ‘TANGK’ is at once sprawling and focused, imaginative and immediate.
Vocalist Joe Talbot says, "TANGK. I needed love. So I made it. I gave love out to the world and it feels like magic. This is our album of gratitude and power. All love songs. All is love.”
TANGK follows the band’s 2021 critically acclaimed album, CRAWLER, which led to their first two Grammy Award nominations. This is their fifth album, building on the incendiary debut, Brutalism, (2017), which helped create career highlights including a succession of huge shows, including a sold-out Alexandra Palace, winning a Ivor Novello Award and earning BRIT and Mercury Music Prize nominations.
TANGK will be released on 16 February via Partisan Records and is available to pre-order now.
