Hayley Williams responds to allegations of being "performative" on World Mental Health Day post
Last week, Hayley Williams of Paramore shared a post for World Mental Health Day, on the socials for her hair-dye company, Good Dye Young.
In this statement, she shared her own experiences with depression, being diagnosed with PTSD and chronic fatigue, and how that has affected her life over the years. She also went on to detail the support that is in place for employees of her businesses at Good Dye Young, and Fruits Hair Lab.
"If I didn’t have access to mental health professionals and functional doctors I may have never learned these things and continued to struggle on my own, without answers. I hate thinking about how many people are stuck without answers or any tangible help," she wrote. "Obviously there are little things we can do in the day to day to cheer ourselves up or give ourselves space to really express how we feel and who we are. Small wins do help. I’ve always turned to music, dying/changing my hair, some form of community… but sometimes you just need more support than these things can give."

After sharing a selection of wellness professionals and therapists, a few ex-employees of Good Dye Young took to the comments to share their experiences of an unhealthy working environment. One person wrote: "Working for these co founders is what put me in therapy and when the issues were directly addressed to Hayley they were if ignored," in response to this, another person commented: "another past employee here vouching for how performative and fake this post is."
Williams has now taken to the comments of the original post to address these now-deleted accusations, alluding to the fact that there may be more to the story that neither party are willing to share. "I have interacted with stylists at our salon only a handful of times. i co-founded and funded the salon but i am not the boss, nor do i even have a job title there," Williams said, adding that "there are things being said here about both GDY and Fruits that are provably false. this situation has so much more context than i feel is appropriate to share on the internet.
She also added that on World Mental Health Day, all staff at Good Dye Young and Fruits were giving unlimited mental health services as part of their already-provided health insurance. "If keeping that private was performative, well then fuck me i guess," Williams concluded.
