Hands Habits announces new collection of songs with lead single "Something Wrong"
Hands Habits releases "Something Wrong", the lead outing from their upcoming six-track project Sugar the Bruise.
“Something Wrong" is Hand Habits' first new outing since “Greatest Weapon” and "Under The Water” landed in September 2022. The new single will feature on their forthcoming project Sugar the Bruise, which will follow last year’s Fun House + Blueprints collection of live recordings and demos.
The LA-based singer/songwriter, real name Meg Duffy, was inspired by a songwriting class that they taught in the summer of 2021. They explain: "I realised how vital improvisation and collaboration are to me; I was asked to design writing prompts, and although this was not typically how I would write left to my own devices, I found it to be a wonderful way to get the wheels of inspiration turning".
They decided to take their new batch of songs to Luke Temple (Here We Go Magic, Art Feynman) – who they've previously worked with on "motherless" and "no reply" – as well as frequent collaborator Philip Weinrobe (Adrienne Lenker, Cass Combs). The project also features additional production, engineering and arranging coming from Jeremy Harris.
"For Sugar the Bruise, I had no plan other than to let my mind go blank, and lean into the playful side of things. To laugh a little, to lighten up, to shift the focus off of my own experience a bit. What if making a song didn’t mean dredging up the abyss," they say. Hand Habits adds that the project "turned out nothing like I’d imagined it would."
