Grimes reassures Charli XCX over Grammys snub, says she wasn't allowed to put SOPHIE forward for nomination
Grimes has reassured Charli XCX for not getting a Grammy nomination this year, and also revealed that the Recording Academy didn't allow her to put SOPHIE forward for a Grammy nomination when she was on the Producer of the Year board.
On Sunday Charli XCX posted on Instagram about not receiving a Grammy nomination for Crash, writing, "me not being nominated for a grammy for crash is like mia goth not being nominated for an oscar for pearl and only further proves that people don’t wanna see hot evil girls thrive."
Grimes commented on Charli XCX's post, reassuring her that the Grammys are "so irrelevant I wouldn’t even sweat it." She also revealed that the Grammys once blocked her from putting forward SOPHIE for a nomination, writing, "I stopped even clocking them in any capacity when I was on the producer of the year board and they quite literally would not allow me to nominate anyone who wasn’t on a pre fabricated list that was exceptionally boring. I was one of three women and the only person under 40 for sure. It’s literally not a relevant thing. I tried to nominate Sophie and was told that wasn’t allowed."
While accepting the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammy with Sam Smith for their "Unholy" collaboration at this year's Grammys, Kim Petras paid tribute to SOPHIE, saying her "inspiration will forever be in my music."
