Green Day get political on Ryan Seacrest's New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast
During the broadcast of Ryan Seacrest's New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day changed some lyrics to highlight the band's political views and their lack of interest in Trump's MAGA campaign.
During their performance, Armstrong altered the lyrics to “American Idiot” to sing, “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda," instead of "I'm not a part of the redneck agenda".
In a recent interview with 102.1 the Edge, Armstrong discussed his thoughts on writing political songs without convicition: “[With] political songs, it takes a lot of heart to do that, and I think if you keep doing it for the sake of doing it just because you’re angry, then you take the heart out of it. Then it just becomes part of what everyone is complaining about.”

Green Day are gearing up to release their fourteenth studio album, Saviours, which features the track
"The American Dream Is Killing Me". Armstrong describes the new song as “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people - in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”
Earlier this year, the band released a new t-shirt which featured Donald Trump's mugshot, with all proceeds going to Greater Good Music Charity to help provide food for those affected by the Maui fires.
Saviours is set for release on 19 January 2024 via Reprise/Warner Records, and is available to pre-order now.
