Goat Girl return with new single, "gossip"
London four-piece Goat Girl have returned with the new standalone single, "gossip".
Produced by the band and mixed by John ‘Spud’ Murphy in Ireland during the recording of their, Below The Waste album, the track sees Goat Girl embracing the electronic side of their music, the band took inspiration from Aphex Twin, Koreless, Tirzah and Gilla Band. The track is accompanied by a video which is directed and edited by singer/guitarist Lottie Pendlebury.
Recently expanded to a four piece with the addition of Ruby Kyriakides as a permanent member, Goat Girl explain how the track came about and developed its own identity compared to the other tracks recorded at the time.
“We started recording gossip in Ireland with John ‘Spud’ Murphy making Below The Waste but it felt more like it’s own thing than a part of the album. We took the stemas from Dublin and reworked them in London with Ruby. We wanted to lean into its electronic potential and do something quite different sonically. Lyrically, it uses natural imagery as a metaphor for contemplating hearsay and destructive behaviours.”
"gossip" is out now via Rough Trade Records.
