Glastonbury 2023's full line-up announcement reveals huge gender disparity
In a report from Slingo, it has been revealed that there's a disproportionate number of male-fronted bands and solo artists set to play at the Glastonbury Festival 2023.
The festival's line-up includes 182 male dominated singer and artists, while the number of females came to a total of 100. Ten slots have been given to acts that featured an equal gender split.
This comes after years of discussions about how to make their festival line-ups more inclusive. Glastonbury’s co-organiser Emily Eavis said that they were trying to book female acts, but blamed an industry “pipeline” problem for the reason that they haven't been as proactive.
"Unfortunately, it is a similar story of male acts dominating lineups for other festivals too, and over the past ten years, only 6% of UK music festival headline acts have been solely female artists. Glastonbury has confirmed the 2024 line-up will feature two female headliners, with the lack of female headliners this year attributed to a potential headliner pulling out," she noted.

Elton John, Guns N' Roses, and Arctic Monkeys are set to be the headliners for this year. Despite the additions of Lizzo, Lana Del Rey, Blondie, and Mel C, among many others, there's still a huge discrepancy where over 50% of the artists playing at Glastonbury, are male.
According to statistics, the Pyramid Stage will see 12 male acts or bands with a higher number of males as their members play while only six slots will be allocated to all female performances.
Glastonbury’s Glade stage was found to be most disproportionate with 32 male-dominating acts set to play across the weekend, and just five female acts.
