Florence + The Machine announces 'Symphony of Lungs' for BBC Proms 2024
Florence Welch has announced a special performance of her debut album Lungs as part of the BBC proms this September, to celebrate its 15th anniversary.
“This album was such a patchwork of a period of time. Of my messy teenage years and early twenties. I had no idea what I was doing or where it would go and a lot of the songs are simply an exhalation of joy. But that’s really where the sound of Florence + The Machine was born. So to have it still be so present in people’s hearts 15 years later, and to be invited to play through it orchestrally at the BBC Proms is such an honour," says Florence Welch.
'Symphony of Lungs' will find Florence performing the record in full, as arranged and conducted by the Grammy Award winning Jules Buckley and his Orchestra. Taking place on 11 September, the ‘Symphony of Lungs’ marks Florence’s debut at the BBC Proms and will be aired live on BBC Radio 3 and recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC TWO and BBC iPlayer.
Tickets for the BBC Proms go on sale on 18 May at 9am. For more information, visit bbc.co.uk.
