Floating Points returns with his first release of the year, "Birth4000"
Sam Shepherd – AKA British electronic producer and musician Floating Points – has returned with the brand new single, "Birth4000" as his first release of the year.
Shepherd has spent the most part of 2023 composing his first ballet for symphony orchestra and electronics. Mere Mortals will be performed by the San Francisco Ballet, premiering in January 2024.
Today, he returns with the new single, "Birth4000" which was played all across the summer by Four Tet at his Finsbury Park headline show, as well as gracing Arcadia’s industrial spider when played by Floating Points and Caribou b2b at this year’s Glastonbury, also appearing in festival sets from Peggy Gou, Ben UFO, Call Super, Palms Trax and more. The track's artwork comes from Tokyo based artist Akiko Nakayama.
Last month the audience at a packed Hollywood Bowl witnessed Shepherd perform his Mercury Prize nominated masterpiece Promises. Shepherd assembled an all-star cast of players that included Shabaka Hutchings, Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Dan Snaith (Caribou), Kara Lis Coverdale and Hinako Omori with Miguel Atwood Ferguson conducting. The album was a collaboration with Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra.
"Birth4000" is available digitally, now. It will also be released on limited white label 12" vinyl on 3 November, and is available for pre-order.
