FLO join forces with Missy Elliott on new single "Fly Girl"
BBC Sound of 2023 and BRITs Rising Star winners FLO have teamed up with the legendary Missy Elliott for their new single "Fly Girl".
"Fly Girl" marks FLO's first new release since hopping on a remix of Stormzy's "Hide & Seek" in January, and follows Missy Elliott's appearance on Skrillex's "RATATA" last month. The new track lifts lyrics from Missy Elliott's iconic 2002 hit "Work It" - "If you're a fly gal / Get your nails done / Get a pedicure / Get your hair did."
Speaking about their definition of "Fly Girl", FLO say, "Our "Fly Girl" is the embodiment of strength, empowerment, attitude, and community. She/he/they/them/ are not shaped by what society deems beautiful or acceptable, but a member of an inclusive environment that accepts and embraces femininity in all its glory. We are hardworking independent fly girls who get the job done, and have fun while doing it."
Missy Elliott says of the collaboration, "Working with FLO has been nothing less than amazing. I remember a few of their fans sent me clips of their performances, and I immediately felt the authentic 90’s vibe. I loved the fact they all sang lead so well - great vocal control - so when I was asked to be a part of the "Fly Girl" record, it was a no brainer. They used the inspiration from my song "Work It", and I felt they did it justice. I enjoyed it and I believe they have a long, great career ahead of them."
Back in January FLO confirmed to Elton John that they're planning to put out their debut album this year.
