Flamingods share new single "Tall Glass"
"Tall Glass" is the latest taster of their forthcoming album, Head of Pomegranate.
The new single joins prelude tracks "Gutterball" and "Dreams (On The Strip)" on the forthcoming album which was recorded in Atlanta with Grammy award-winning producer Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, M.I.A). Their first new release following 2019’s Levitation, Head of Pomegranate ushers in a new era for the much loved Bahrain-rasied, London-based quartet, and will be accompanied by their first headline UK tour in four years this November.
“Musically we were inspired by my Afro roots here, musicians from the 70s and 80s like William Onyeabor, Steve Monite and Letta Mbulu – who were putting out Afro-synth bangers and fusing electronica with funk, disco and pop,” reflects vocalist Charles Prest, “We’re quite lucky as a band as we have a whole melting pot of cultural inspirations to pull from. As well as our collective eight nationalities we’ve also lived in London for the whole existence of the band which in itself is a culturally diverse and inspiring city. I think this comes through on ‘Tall Glass’, it’s one of our favourite tunes from the record.”
Whilst Prest explains that the thematic premise of "Tall Glass" is about the reflection and clarity that comes with“growing older and learning to give yourself a break,” the music video takes on a life of its own, crafting a subversive narrative helmed by director Tanmay Chowdhary.
As he explains, “The treatment of the film Tall Glass is inspired by the all-male Turkish gambling bars where the happenings are kept a secret from the outside world. We wanted to flip the idea of this space over its head by having a female-led gang of gamblers and revolve the story around a trade of pomegranates that go wrong.”
"Tall Glass" is out now. Flamingods' forthcoming fifth studio album, Head of Pomegranate, is set for release on 13 October and is available to pre-order.
