F*cked Up share new single "Cicada"
Fucked Up have treated fans to a fourth preview of their upcoming album One Day with the new single "Cicada".
"Cicada" will appear on One Day with previous singles "I Think I Might Be Weird", "Found" and "One Day", and is accompanied by a Colin Medley-directed video.
Guitarist Mike Haliechuk, who takes on lead vocals for the new song, says, ""Cicada" is about what life is like after you lose people, and our responsibility to carry them forward into the future, using the things they taught us as a light. I like to imagine the sound of cicadas as a metaphor for our strange life in the subculture - we all just live these weird little hidden lives under the dirt, and then once in a generation, one of us gets to bust out of the dirt and intone their song so loud that it can be heard all over."
One Day will follow Fucked Up's 2018 album Dose Your Dreams and their March compilation Do All Words Can Do. The forthcoming album is the group's shortest of their career, having been written and recorded in the space of just one day (hence the title).
"Cicada" is out now. Fucked Up's One Day album will follow on Friday (27 January) via Merge Records, and is available to pre-order now.
