Eydís Evensen announces second album with lead single "Tephra Horizon"
Icelandic pianist and composer Eydís Evensen has announced her second album The Light, and has released new single "Tephra Horizon" as the lead outing.
"Tephra Horizon" is Evensen's first new release since her piano rework of Ólafur Arnalds' "Loom" landed in October last year, and is accompanied by a Einar Egils-directed video.
Evensen says of the new single, "When we experienced the volcanic eruption of 2021, I felt massively drawn to the eruption. I wrote "Tephra Horizon" to reflect on the connection between all the past eruptions we’ve had here in Iceland, together with this fresh image we see now. Experiencing an eruption like that is other worldly. It’s hard to put into words the feeling of staring into the source of life itself, and the source of our planet, and how small we are compared to the world around us. I am so inspired by the weather conditions of this beautiful country, and by the incredible landscapes which are the formation of all these eruptions over hundreds of years."
The new song will appear on Evensen's upcoming second album The Light, which will follow her 2021 debut Bylur.
