Emmeline announces forthcoming mixtape, Shapes, Shadows, DVDs
East London-based artist Emmeline has announced her forthcoming eight-track mixtape, Shapes, Shadows DVDs.
Alongside the announcement, Emmeline has shared the new single, "Can't Catch Me Now!". Produced by John Foyle, the single joins earlier releases "LGIK", "Night Rider", and "Woman Photographer of the Year".
Speaking about the single, Emmeline shares: “A lot of the songs I’ve released lately have been heavily influenced by the movies. This track in particular lends a hand from two DiCaprio greats: Romeo + Juliet and Catch Me if You Can. It’s really a song about escapism, and latching yourself free from anything that holds you back, but I guess it’s also about distinguishing truth from fantasy, and knowing when to run. I think of all my songs, it’s a message that will hopefully resonate with a lot of people (and it’s a bit of a bop)!”
Shapes, Shadows, DVDs follows Emmeline’s debut EPs, ‘Satellite Navigation System’ (2022) and ‘Small-Town Girls and Soft Summer Nights’ (2023), both produced by Fraser T Smith.
Production credits on the forthcoming release include Cameo Blush, Dom Valentino (Greentea Peng, Skepta, Unknown T), Fractures, John Foyle and more. Emmeline explains, “this project is formed as a mixtape to nod to the unruly genre of spoken word infused hip-hop, but also due to the collaborative nature of the work. I had the pure joy of working with many of my producer and industry friends on this project, and it really is a collage of my past year in life and music.”
Shapes, Shadows DVDs, is set for release on 25 October via Lewis Recordings.
