Egyptian government refuse to give Travis Scott license for pyramid concert over safety concerns
Earlier this month, Travis Scott announced a launch show and livestream for his forthcoming album, Utopia, which was set to take place at the Egyptian pyramids.
Fans reacted to the livestream and show announcement, highlighting that not everyone had the ability to book a trip to Egypt. "The pyramids? we didnt hit the lottery yet gang we aint got racks for this," one user said, whilst another added: "the pharaons [sic] wwakin up like “yoo ITSSSLITTT”.
Now, thanks to the Egyptian government, fans need not worry about making it to the concert as Egypt’s state-affiliated Musicians Syndicate has refused to grant permit for the performance.
In a statement posted via Egypt Today, Dr. Mohamed Abdullah on behalf of the Musicians Syndicate said: "After examining social media opinions and feedback, as well as the news circulating on search engines and social media platforms, which included authenticated images and information about peculiar rituals performed by the star during his performance, contradicting our authentic societal values and traditions, the Syndicate’s president and board of directors have decided to cancel the license issued for hosting this type of concert, which goes against the cultural identity of the Egyptian people."
Egypt Today speculate that the cancellation could be due to rumours of Satanism and Freemasonry which began to surround Scott following Astroworld Festival, since the Musicians Syndicate is "part of the fabric of our beloved country, it works towards its stability and security and rejects any tampering with the societal values, customs, and traditions of Egypt and the Arab world."
Travis Scott is yet to release a statement in regards to the cancellation.
