Easy Life have found themselves being sued by Easy Jet over their name

Leicestershire five-piece Easy Life have shared a statement addressing the lawsuit that they're facing from airline company Easy Jet over similarities between their names.

Taking to their socials, the band have opened up about being sued by EasyJet’s holding company EasyGroup.

“okay… never imagined having to do this but we’ve no choice but to address the situation we find ourselves in. as some of you have already discovered, we are being sued, easy jet are suing us for being called easy life," they wrote. “they’re forcing us to change our name or take up a costly legal battle which we could never afford. we’ve worked hard to establish our brand i’m certain in no way have we ever affected their business."

Easy Life admit that they're in a sticky situation, and it would be pretty impossible for them to try to cover the costs of entering a legal battle. Despite the circumstances, they're maintaining humour.

“although we find this whole situation hilarious, we are virtually powerless against such a massive corporation. i don’t really know what else to say, will keep you lot updated," they continue. "for those of you who bought gig tickets and ended up on a budget flight to tenerife, i apologise, for the rest of you, thank you so much for your support”.

The band, formed in 2017 and made up of Murray Matravers, Oliver Cassidy, Sam Hewitt, Lewis Berry and Jordan Birtles have released two albums, Life's a Beach and Maybe in Another Life – both of which have reached number two in the official albums chart.

In the comments, fans appeared shocked and have wondered if this is a hoax. Some have shared their band tattoos in exasperation, and others have tried to help the band come up with a loophole. One person suggested they change their name to 'E Z Life' as the pronunciation can be different according to regional accents.

As reported by NME, who reached out to EasyJet for a comment, the lawsuit appears to span from EasyGroup wanting to "expand the “easy” brand into the fields of hotels, supermarkets, financial services and more."

An EasyGroup spokesperson said “Stelios and easyGroup founded and (now) own the right to the easy brand name. Other companies (including easyLife) pay annual royalties for its use as part of their business strategy. We cannot allow unauthorised third parties to simply use it free, gratis and for nothing. That would be very unfair.”

Earlier this year, Easy Life detailed the financial struggles they would've experienced had they not cancelled their North American tour.

Easy Life are yet to reveal whether they intend on changing their name or entering the legal battle.
