Dua Lipa shares details of her forthcoming “1970s-era psychedelia” inspired album
She is said to be working alongside Tame Impala's Kevin Parker for her third studio album.
Moving on from the disco influence of her last album, Future Nostalgia, Dua Lipa is reportedly leaning into psychedelic territory for her forthcoming third album.
As described in a new interview with The New York Times Style Magazine, the new album will be informed by “1970s-era psychedelia” as opposed to the house and disco instrumentals that were found on her second album.
In November 2022, fans of both musicians were eagle-eyed enough to spot to one of Lipa’s Instagram photo dumps and concluded she had been working with Parker. In one photo, Lipa was drinking wine in front of a railing matching one at Parker’s LA home, while another contains studio monitors that fans tied to Parker’s recording studio. Apparently, Parker’s manager and his wife also liked the photos.
Last month, in an interview with Vulture, Mark Ronson revealed that he had heard some of Dua Lipa‘s new album, and speculated that there was an Easter Egg in the video for "Dance the Night", which meant that she's moving away from her disco era.
“I’ve heard some of it and it’s incredible. I think that’s why there’s the disco ball that smashes in the video, right?, he said. "This feels like her triumphant stomp on that era of her music into whatever she does next.”
Following Future Nostalgia, Dua Lipa released Club Future Nostalgia, a remix album that featured guest appearances from Missy Elliott, Madonna, Mark Ronson, and more. She’s since collaborated on new material with the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Calvin Harris, and Elton John, and has launched both a podcast and a “cultural concierge” newsletter in the form of At Your Service, and Service95.
Dua Lipa also stars as Mermaid Barbie in Greta Gerwig's iconic Barbie movie.
