Donald Glover to star in forthcoming 21 Savage biopic
Donald Glover has been announced as lead actor in forthcoming film, American Dream: The 21 Savage Story.
American Dream: The 21 Savage Story is set to star Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things) as it documents the formative years of the rapper who was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for reportedly overstaying his visa by 13 years. 21 Savage was born in London, and was brought to Atlanta at the age of seven. When his visa expired the following year, he was still a child.
21 Savage has three children who were all born in the United States, and have full legal citizenship. Last year, he was able to attain his citizenship after applying for a U Visa, which is a nonimmigrant visa given to victims of crimes, allowing them to stay in the US while they assist the police with the case. He was a victim of a shooting back in 2013, and almost died of blood loss. The forthcoming film documents him overcoming many obstacles and giving back to the community who helped him along the way.
21 Savage released Her Loss – a collaborative album with Drake – which came under fire for it's fictitious promotional campaign which included a fake performance on NPR's Tiny Desk, a Howard Stern Show interview, and a fake SNL performance introduced by Michael B. Jordan, and a performance of their "Privileged Rappers" track in the style of a COLORS show. They were also facing a lawsuit with Vogue's parent company Advance Magazine Publishers and Condé Nast over their fake Vogue magazine cover.
Meanwhile, Donald Glover has been busy as a writer and producer. He's been working on a film with Malia Obama, as well as taking over writing duties on the Disney+ Star Wars: Lando show alongside his brother, Stephen Glover, replacing Dear White People's Justin Simien. He also stars in the forthcoming Mr. & Mrs Smith show on Prime Video, which is a reboot of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s 2005 action film.
There is currently no release date announced for American Dream: The 21 Savage Story.
