Doja Cat responds to losing thousands of followers on social media: "I feel free"
Not one to shy away from a controversy, Doja Cat has recently made headlines for a string of comments calling her fans "creepy".
Last month, Doja took to her Threads account to give her opinion on fans calling themselves Kittenz. “My fans don’t name themselves shit. if you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or fucking ‘kittenz,’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house,” she wrote.
A user named “thekittenzweb” replied to Doja Cat, asking what they should use for a new name. Doja wrote back, “just delete the account and rethink everything it’s never too late.” In response to another fan who had replied to the discourse, using Doja Cat's full legal name, she wrote: “you making my government name ur sn is creepy as fuck".
Spotting that she was active on the app, another fan messaged Doja Cat saying that they wanted to hear her say that she loves her fans. “I don’t though cuz I don’t even know yall," she responded. It was at this moment where another fan hit back at the artist: “and we don't know you. but we've supported you through thick and thin. mind you you’d be NOTHING without us”.
Doja shot back at them, saying, “nobody forced you idk why you’re taking to me like you’re my mother bitch you sound like a crazy person.”

Following this, several fan accounts deactivated their pages, and Doja Cat began to lose thousands of followers – it has been reported that in total, she lost around 500,000.
Taking to her Instagram story yesterday evening (16 August), Doja Cat broke her silence on the ordeal, and added that she now feels free. "Seeing all these people unfollow makes me feel like I’ve defeated a large beast that’s been holding me down for so long, and it feels like I can reconnect with people who really matter and love me for who i am and not for who i was," she wrote.
Doja Cat is gearing up to release the follow up to her 2021 album, Planet Her, and has released the new singles, "Paint The Town Red", and "Attention".
Doja Cat is set to appear during Victoria’s Secret’s Prime Video broadcast, The Tour ’23, on 26 September. Later this year, Doja Cat will embark on her first headlining North American tour, the Scarlet Tour, with Ice Spice and Doechii joining as openers.
