Doja Cat responds to album artwork backlash: "I don't care anymore about satisfying you"
Doja Cat has finally released her fourth studio album, Scarlet. The album campaign hasn't been without its hiccups – especially surrounding the artwork.
Last month, after consistently teasing fans, and sending them down rabbit holes about the album's details, Doja Cat announced the release of Scarlet – the follow up to 2021's Planet Her.
Eagle-eyed music fans quickly noticed after Doja Cat shared her album artwork, that it looked almost identical to the release of Chaver's forthcoming album, Of Gloom. Revealed on 29 July, and also due for release on September 22, is almost exactly the same, except for the shape of a blood droplet and the positioning of the spider’s legs.
After deleting the Instagram post with the original artwork on it, Doja Cat shared an updated album cover –– created by the same artist –– which is notably different, with two pearlescent spiders, instead of the solo red arachnid that originally graced the cover.
The art I chose for my album is beautiful and I like it a lot. The two spiders signify conquering your fear. None of my album covers had meaning until this album. You not accepting me was a fear I used to have. I don't care anymore about satisfying you.

Doja Cat recently came under fire for attacking fans about the expectations they have of her, and their "creepy" behaviour when it comes to using her birth name as theirs on social media. As a result, she lost around 500,000 followers on her socials, but instead of being upset about it, she said she felt "free".
So of course she had no qualms telling one user exactly how she felt about them negatively commenting on the updated artwork for Scarlet. "The art I chose for my album is beautiful and I like it a lot. The two spiders signify conquering your fear. None of my album covers had meaning until this album. You not accepting me was a fear I used to have. I don't care anymore about satisfying you," she wrote.
The brand new album is completely self-written and features the singles, "Attention", "Paint The Town Red", and "Demons" which is accompanied by a video starring Christina Ricci. With the release of this album, Doja Cat joins Missy Elliot as the only female rapper to have a self-written album on their discography.
