Doja Cat confirms new album will arrive this year and will feature much more rap
Doja Cat has confirmed that her Planet Her follow-up is due out in 2023, and is expected to feature more rap.
Doja Cat hasn't released new music since her Elvis biopic track "Vegas" landed in May 2022, and after trolling followers on Twitter about the genre of her Planet Her follow-up in September last year, Doja Cat has spoken about her next full-length with Variety, reportedly confirming that it'll arrive in 2023, and is due to feature more rap.
Later, when speaking about genres, Doja Cat said, "I want to explore punk. But not pop-punk. I feel like we have enough pop-punk artists right now. And if there needs to be more, then let there be more, but I don’t think I’m the one to do it. I want to explore more of a raw, unfiltered, hardcore punk sort of thing. It’s just something that I’m doing for my own personal fun - getting some drummers and guitarists together. And I don’t even know if that’s gonna make it out there."
Elsewhere, Doja Cat hinted that her next era will see her move in a "more masculine direction," and also spoke about people comparing her shaving her head to Britney Spears, saying, "It’s so incredibly disrespectful for people to be minimising what Britney went through and make a joke out of something that was very serious and a big deal in her life."
Doja Cat is up for five Grammys this weekend, including Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Rap Performance and more.
