Doechii says Paramore "made a huge impression on me and my style"
Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, Doechii discussed her early forays into music, and how Paramore has been an influence on her.
“Paramore was my first introduction to rock music,” Doechii said, of how she found her style through discovering artists outside of the rap world. “I know that rock music is popular but where I grew up in the South, in my culture and my radius, it wasn’t so popular. But she [Hayley Williams] kind of changed my life and my perspective, and I learned about different types of music through Paramore. It made a huge impression on me and my style.”
Doechii even sampled and referenced the band, on her track, "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake", which went viral on TikTok in 2020 – "Singing karaoke while my mom was at the store (you are) / Scared that she would walk in on me singing Paramore (the only exception)".

Speaking of the divide between albums where she's experimenting with more of a pop sound than a traditional rap one, she says: “I have no problem with pop records at all, which is why I don’t regret anything about What It Is and it doesn’t mean that I’m never gonna make a pop song again. I’m not the person that’s like #realrap over pop,” she says. “I think artists should be able to do whatever they want to do. But at the end of the day as long as I have balance and I can put my heart into my music, that’s what’s important to me.”
