Demi Lovato's team discuss her viral “Heart Attack” performance for heart attack survivors
Last week, Demi Lovato went viral for performing her track "Heart Attack" at the American Heart Association’s annual Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection concert.
Demi Lovato publicly revealed that she once suffered a heart attack herself after a drug overdose. Now, due to the moment going viral online, Lovato's team have shared a statement to EW about the performance, revealing that she had actually discussed her reasons for choosing the song.
“She spoke on the mind-heart connection,” the representative wrote. “It was a sensitive moment intended to champion the women in the room — the very reason why Demi was at the event. She did open with a beautiful intro on why she chose the song and addressed the room, talking about the mind and heart connection. It was actually a beautiful moment.”

In her docu-series, Dancing With the Devil, Lovato revealed the extent of her overdose which led to a heart attack.
"I had three strokes, I had a heart attack, I suffered brain damage from the strokes," Lovato said. "I can't drive anymore. I have blind spots in my vision, so sometimes when I go to pour a glass of water, I'll miss the cup because I can't see it anymore. I had pneumonia because I asphyxiated and I had multiple organ failure." If she had been taken to the hospital five to ten minutes later than she was, she would have died.
