David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's Here Lies Love musical getting Broadway debut later this year
David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's collaborative musical Here Lies Love, which tells the story of the Philippines’ former first lady Imelda Marcos and the People Power Revolution, is making its Broadway debut later this year.
In 2010, Byrne and Fatboy Slim joined forces on Here Lies Love, a concept album and musical about the life of the Philippines’ former first lady Imelda Marcos. St. Vincent, Santigold, Sia, Florence Welch, Cyndi Lauper and more contributed to the album. The first musical adaptation of Here Lies Love premiered at NYC's The Public Theater in 2013, and was directed by Alex Timbers.
Now it's been revealed that a new production of Here Lies Love, once again directed by Timbers, will make its Broadway debut in summer this year.
The show’s producers said in a statement, "As a team of binational American producers - Filipinos among us - we are thrilled to bring Here Lies Love to Broadway! We welcome everyone to experience this singularly exuberant piece of theatre. The history of the Philippines is inseparable from the history of the United States, and as both evolve, we cannot think of a more appropriate time to stage this show. See you on the dance floor!"
