Complete Mountain Almanac release new track "February"

10 January 2023, 15:55 | Written by Cerys Kenneally

Complete Mountain Almanac, aka Rebekka Karijord, Jessica Dessner and her twin brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National, have released a new track titled "February" from their upcoming self-titled debut album.

"February" is the second outing from Complete Mountain Almanac's debut album, following the lead release "May" which arrived in October last year.

Jessica Dessner says, ""February" is a song that began as a reckoning with the profound physical changes wrought by breast cancer and how they threaten to dismantle every aspect of life, and yet, somehow the spirit rises, remains constant, immutable, a force, like nature."

Karijord adds, "To me, "February" is like an ancient myth. A roadtrip dance, moving between vulnerability and resilience. It journeys through layers of odd meters, restlessness and mystery, and then lands in a musical landscape of acceptance and clarity."

Complete Mountain Almanac was formed through a 15-year friendship between Sweden-based singer and composer Rebekka Karijord, and Italy-based poet, dancer and multimedia artist Jessica Dessner. Karijord set out to make an album "about climate change in 12 suites, representing the 12 months of the year," and approached Dessner to do the visual component.

The album was recorded at Paris' St. Germain studios, and features performances and co-production from The National's Aaron and Bryce Dessner. The songs were recorded live, and Bryce Dessner wrote string arrangements for six songs that were performed by the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.

"February" is out now. Complete Mountain Almanac's self-titled debut album will arrive via Bella Union on 27 January, and is available to pre-order now.
